Celebration of the second anniversary of .RS domain
Belgrade, 5 March 2010 – The Serbian National Register of Internet Domain Names (RNIDS) celebrated its third anniversary and the second birthday of the .RS domain. The event took place in the Serbian Chamber of Commerce and was opened by the Minister of Telecommunications and Information Society, Ms. Jasna Matić. Representatives of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce, the Serbian Orthodox Church and the Ministry of Defence, as well as reputable guests from abroad - Wim Degezelle, Communication Manager, the Council of European National Top Level domain Registers – CENTR, Julia Ovchinnkova, a member of the Coordination Center for TDL .RU and PhD Manel Sanroma, a member of the Expert Committee of Fundacio puntCat from Barcelona were present.
Two accompanying events were organised within the convention: a discussion about the introduction of the Cyrillic IDN ccTLD of Serbia which was, at the same time, the initiation of the public debate regarding this issue; and a meeting with registrars.The Day of RNIDS
Belgrade, 4 March 2010 – RNIDS organises an event to mark two years from the initiation of the .rs domain registration process and three years from the foundation of RNIDS. It will take place in the Serbian Chamber of Commerce on 5 March 2010 and its beginning is scheduled for 10 am.
Ms. Jasna Matić, the Minister for Telecommunications and Information Society will open the ceremony. Representatives of several European registers will participate in the event. Belgrade, 3 March 2010 – At a proposal of the Serbian National Register of Internet Domain Names (RNIDS), the Serbian Orthodox Church will participate in activities related to the choice of the Cyrillic Internet domain of Serbia. The Holy Synod of Bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church delegated Mr. Oliver Subotić as its representative in a working group for selecting the Cyrillic domain of Serbia. Mr. Subotić is a theologian and information scientist, as well as the head of the Center for the Study and Use of Modern Technologies. Belgrade, 3 February 2010 – The discussion about the introduction of the Cyrillic ccTLD was held at the Serbian Chamber of Commerce on 2 February 2010. Members of the RNIDS Managing Board, representatives of the Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Society, the Informatics Association of Serbia, CONUS, the Serbian Business Registers Agency, the Serbian Chamber of Commerce, Gartner, editors of specialised IT magazines, as well as experts who actively promote the Cyrillic on the Internet attended the meeting. The goal of the meeting was to reach an agreement on the manner of initiating a public discussion on choosing a string that will become the Cyrillic ccTLD which will represent the Republic of Serbia on the Internet.
A working group was formed at the end of the meeting. Based on ideas presented at the Serbian Chamber of Commerce, this group will create a plan of activities for carrying out a public discussion.Conclusion of the Serbian Government regarding Cyrillic ccTLD

Belgrade, 1 February 2010 – From 16 November 2009, when the registration process for IDN ccTLDs began, ICANN has received 16 requests for IDN ccTLDs that represent eight different languages. The requests from four countries – Egypt, The Russian Federation, The United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia have already passed the first phase – checking technical and linguistic requirements for IDN. Belgrade, 1 February 2010 – The rules that enable the registration of IDN ccTLDs were ratified at the annual meeting of ICANN held on 30 October 2009 in South Korea. IDNs enable the use of a local language and script for the string that will represent a country on the Internet. Countries which apply for localised domains can use only a non-Latin script and their official language. Belgrade 29 October 2009 – The Serbian National Register of Internet Domain Names (RNIDS) has received an official letter regarding the decision of the ICANN Board of Directors to postpone deactivation of the YU domain until 30 March 2010.
Apart from quoting decisions of the ICANN Board of Directors, it is mentioned in the letter that the procedure of deactivating the YU domain will be initiated on 1 March 2010. At that time a request for removing the YU domain from zone tables in the DNS root servers will be sent to the US Government for authorisation and then to VeriSign for implementation.
At this moment it is not possible to specify the exact date when the YU domain will no longer be visible on the Internet because of a large number of participants in this procedure, some of whom are impossible to be influenced. ICANN intends to effect the removal of the YU domain from the Internet as close as possible to 30 March 2010.
Bearing this fact in mind, the Managing Board of RNIDS will ratify a plan of activities and inform the general public about it in a timely manner.
