The Register of National Internet Domain Names of Serbia (RNIDS) is a professional, non-governmental, not-for-profit foundation established to manage the .rs and .срб country code top-level Internet domains in a way that serves the general interests of all Serbian citizens while adhering to the principles of quality, efficiency, independence and transparency.

The RNIDS Founding Assembly was held on the 8th July 2006 and this day is marked as RNIDS Day. RNIDS operated as a fund until the 28th May 2011 when it became a foundation in accordance with law.

The corporate structure of RNIDS comprises the Conference of Co-founders, the Board of Governors and the Director. Any legal entity or sole trader who pays the annual fee, signs the Agreement and appoints an authorised representative to the RNIDS Conference of Co-founders can become a RNIDS co-founder.

RNIDS manages the register for the country code top-level Internet domain of the Republic of Serbia, .rs, in accordance with the decision of ICANN dated 11.09.2007. On the 8th November 2010, ICANN accepted RNIDS’s proposal that .срб become the Cyrillic domain of Serbia and assigned this label to our country as the second country code top-level Internet domain.

Serbian Internet Domain Day (DIDS) is held on 10th March, the day in 2008 when the registration of the .RS domain officially began.

The primary objective of RNIDS is to manage the register of national Internet domains. RNIDS manages five domains in each of the two country code top-level domains (.rs, co.rs, org.rs, edu.rs and in.rs, as well as .срб, .пр.срб, орг.срб, обр.срб and од.срб). The management of the second-level domains .AC.RS and АКМ.СРБ has been delegated to the Academic Network of Serbia and the management of GOV.RS and ВЛ.СРБ to the Administration for Joint Services of the Republic Bodies.

Additional objectives of RNIDS are:
1) Increasing the number of RNIDS co-founders and involving the wider community in its work;
2) Promoting the Internet as a public resource available to all citizens;
3) Increasing Internet content in Serbian and the languages of national minorities.

RNIDS is engaged in the following primary activities:
1) Technical and administrative management of the Central Domain Registry within the framework of the national TLD (top-level domain) and IDN (internationalised domain name), delegated by ICANN to the state of Serbia;
2) Maintaining the main DNS server for the ccTLD and IDN;
3) Managing the publicly accessible WHOIS server for the national domains;
4) Establishing principles and procedures for the operation of accredited registrars;
5) Collecting and publishing information on the growth of the national sphere of the Internet (within its purview and in accordance with RNIDS objectives);
6) Developing and promoting rules for working with accredited registrars in line with best practice, while calling on the experiences of other national registers;
7) Helping in the resolution of disputes concerning the assignment of domain names;
8) Cooperating with similar regional and international organisations;
9) Promoting the .rs and .срб domains.

RNIDS is additionally engaged in the following activities:
1) Organising professional consultations, public debates and other conferences;
2) Providing support to accredited registrars within the national domains;
3) Cooperating with other local and international organisations in accordance with the objectives and purview of RNIDS;
4) Other activities in accordance with RNIDS objectives.

RNIDS is a member of CENTR (Council of European National Top-Level Domain Registries) and cooperates with ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers).
